Capri Season 3 (Delgato Family)
The streets weren’t ready. I wasn’t ready. And yet here I am, obsessed.
Let me tell y’all something I just finished the Capri series by Jahquel J, and I am emotionally drained, in love, and lowkey about to reread it like I ain’t just live through all of that. This series right here? As I’ve said before these are not just stories. It’s an experience.
Let’s talk about Big Pri!!! Sis was confident, compassionate, and loyal. Watching Capri grow into the woman she was meant to be was everything. She found her worth, found her voice, and refused to let anyone play in her face. Her journey was beautiful, raw, and real in a way that had me rooting for her like she was family.
Quameer was for sure the blueprint. He is the Capri’s best friend, protector, and partner. Quameer is that crazy, funny, got the streets on lock man who turns into the softest, most attentive husband when it comes to Capri. The way he loved her was tender, fierce, a little crazy at times, and deep. He helped build her up without ever trying to control her and that kind of love we love to see.
Quasim is the quiet storm, a grieving man with layers we’ve barely scratched. You know he’s dangerous in the streets but protective of the people he loves. He’s the glue, the one who holds it all together, but when it comes to Blair, oh, baby. I’ve started his book and whew, I’ll be back with thoughts later.
Blair is strength in real life form. Sis has so much love to give. She’s been through a lot and still manages to show up for everyone with a full heart. She doesn’t even expect folks to show up for her the same way and that’s what got me. The battle she faces is unspeakable. But she pulled through with grace and fire. Blair deserves rest, love, and everything good.
Capella and Aimee had me on a roller coaster! Capella had me mad tight at one point, because sir, you knew better. He’s young, hurt, and trying to find his way. I see the growth potential though. Aimee had me over here ready to throw my damn Kindle because girl? She had my emotions on a seesaw. But she’s another one who’s been let down by the people who were supposed to protect her. Watching her start to heal has been beautiful though. I’m rooting for their healing both separately and together.
All in all just like in Capone and Cappadonna there is a lot of tension. The scene where Blair earns her nickname Stabby? IYKYK. I was sitting there clutching my chest because I just knew something was about to go down, but I had no clue how it was gonna play out. The tension was real, and when it finally happened all I could say was well damn. And then we get the softness, like Capri and Quameer’s wedding. That moment was a tear jerker. No spoilers, but just know: it was everything. You’ll be crying and smiling at the same time.
Final Thoughts
This series is everything I love about urban fiction: it’s gritty, emotional, funny, dark, and real. These characters felt like family. They were dealing with love, grief, trauma, loyalty and everything real people face. Jahquel J is definitely in her bag and I am here for it. Her pen is powerful. She writes characters that feel like us, fight like us, love like us. The way she made these characters relatable with real life challenges, wrapped in family, friendship, strength, and love its next level.
