A Thug Has Feelings Too by M. Monique

Okay ya’ll listen this book was entertaining from start to finish. This wasn’t one of those emotionally heavy, rip your heart out reads, but it definitely kept my attention and gave me a solid story with a few moments that had me talking to the book like it could hear me.

The MMC, Shaun “Gatah” Smith, is one who loves hard and protects harder. He doesn’t play about his family, and when it comes to Olivia (aka Yaya), he locked in from the moment they met. Now, Gatah isn’t a book bae for me personally, but I did appreciate his loyalty and how he moved when he cared about someone. I know a few readers who would absolutely be all in for him.

Now Olivia had me frustrated for a minute there. I won’t spoil it, but sis made a choice that had me squinting at the page like, “Ma’am. Seriously?” But that’s real life sometimes people make questionable choices, and not every character is going to move how we want them to.

The plot itself is pretty simple: a tragedy brings Gatah and Olivia into each other’s lives, and from there, things move quickly between them. There’s insta attraction, a growing bond, and a whole lot of protectiveness from Gatah. While the story wasn’t super layered or deep, it flowed well and kept me interested. The ending didn’t blow me away, but it wrapped things up enough to make me want to keep going in the series.

Speaking of which I’m actually really curious to read Stephan’s story. His character intrigued me, and I want to know how things play out for him. This is not my first M. Monique read, I’ve read her Summers series and as for now that series is my fave from her. She was in her storytelling bag with the Summers, no question. But I’m glad I circled back to this one because I’m liking where the series is heading.

Final Thoughts:

A Thug Has Feelings Too is a solid pick when you want a quick, drama filled read with a protective hood dude who’s got a soft spot. It’s not the most emotional or layered book I’ve read, but it’s entertaining and sets the stage for stories I’m excited to keep reading. If you like fast paced urban romance with a little heat and a lot of loyalty, give it a shot.
